Soko Bag, in its first weeks of selling beer and Korean fried chicken from a former pizza parlor in Phoenixville, has an international backstory.
Shea Roggio, who grew up nearby, met South Korean-born J.H. “Alice” Chang in Dubai in 2017. He was working for a company selling green-screen photography to theme parks, and she was a ship broker moving goods all around the world.
Laid off during the pandemic, they flew to Korea. As they got off the plane in Seoul, they were hungry and found a sports bar serving twice-fried Korean fried chicken and beer. Though it was 4:30 in the morning, the place was packed with people chomping boneless chicken and watching international sports on TV.
We worked hard to create a customer experience that would bring authentic Korean food with a bit of American culture infused into the menu.
Once our chicken is marinated, we double fry and immediately season it with bamboo salt after coming out of the oil.
Next, you can choose your favorite sauce or seasoning for the chicken. Our most popular seasoning is snow chicken, which is covered in aged white cheddar powder.
Our most traditional Korean sauce is the tteokbokki, which is a pungent, sweet, and fiery counterpoint to the chicken.
Just an FYI, as we’re a small family owned business, we’re starting our Grand Opening with a limited menu to provide the best possible guest experience.
We don’t want to risk getting in over our heads too fast. Once we’ve gone through a few weeks of frying chicken in volume and understanding the demand, we’ll begin introducing new menu items, such as our chicken cheesesteaks, salads, Korean dumplings and more, along with introducing online ordering, delivery services like DoorDash and Uber Eats, and hiring staff that would allow us to open for brunch on Saturday & Sundays.
We love you Phoenixville, and appreciate your patience as we work towards ironing out all the kinks.
Oven: Place Korean fried chicken on a baking sheet covered with a single layer of aluminum foil and re-heat in the oven at 350°F degrees (177°C) for approximately 10 minutes per 1 lb of chicken.
We do not recommend microwaving our chicken as the microwave tends to make fried foods soggy rather than crispy. Korean fried chicken is known for its crispy exterior, and microwaving can result in a loss of texture and crunchiness.
A Korean fried chicken sandwich where the crispy bird is topped with mild cheddar or ghost pepper cheese, diced pickles, kimchi aioli and Bibb lettuce.
A great fusion of Italian and Korean culture, the “grandma” style pizza is covered in olive oil, bulgogi beef, Cooper cheese, kimchi aioli and tteokbokki sauce.
Double fried boneless chicken covered in aged white cheddar powder for a taste you’ve never imagined.
Crunchy and battered thick cut french-fries seasoned with garlic, pepper and bamboo salt, served with our homemade kimchi aioli dipping sauce on the side.
If you’re looking to hire a catering company that will provide an awesome guest experience for an upcoming occasion, let’s talk. Korean fusion food is unforgettable and makes for an overall terrific experience for your guests.
